George A. Roe, 101 Harvard street, son of the late John H., and Sarah J. (Beatty) Roe, 101 Harvard street, died today at his home after a short illness. He was born in Sharon and lived here for the past 50 years. He was a shoe worker and at one time was head skiver at the former E. E. Taylor Co.
Mr. Rose was an old-tome baseball player and was shortstop for the Algonquin Club and the OKO Club. In later years, he assisted the late Joseph Downey in coaching the Taunton Lumber team.
He was a member of Seville Council, KC, and was a former member of the Holy Name Society at St. Margaret's church.
He leaves a sister, Mrs. John T. (Laura) Garand of this city; a nephew, Alfred Garand, also of this city; and two nieces, Mrs. Helen (Garand) Goetz of Roslindale and Miss Laura Bigelow of Brockton.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 8 A. M., from the funeral home, 9 Chester avenue. A high mass of requiem will be sung in St. Patrick's church at 9. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery.
